ABOUT
Strategy computer games are not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you think that playing a game that can go on ad-infinitum and which you control the outcome of events by your own actions, sounds exciting – then read on. (Otherwise put the kettle on and boot up ‘Solitaire’).
There are a myriad of strategy games on the market nowadays and it’s a bit of a minefield finding the type that best suits your needs. Military strategy is one variety and consequently there are Napoleonic, tank, combat and general war-based games you can buy.
By far the most popular type of strategy game is one that ends up with the user having built a vast empire – be it here on Earth or somewhere in a distant galaxy far far away. Civilisation is a game which falls into this category. As a general rule, this type of game starts with you - ‘God’ – and a small population that you have to feed and nurture. If you’re a good ‘God’ and your subjects like you, they’ll reward you by building up your empire, liking and loving each other, thereby procreating so that there are more of them to assist you. Conversely if you treat them badly they’ll turn against you (and ultimately each other) and cause all kinds of grief, eventually bringing you down. The former can turn a game into one that expands in all directions and is literally never ending, whilst the latter causes death and destruction to one and all and is over in a matter of hours.
